Today is my husband’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Now, let us rewind. Two days ago, I was decorating some cookies for a friend’s daughter’s birthday (I’ll post those later,) when my daughter came in and was asking about them. I told her what they were for. She then asked, “what cookies are we making for dad’s birthday?” I said, “I’m not making any for dad’s birthday.” She looked horrified, absolutely disappointed in me.
I didn’t have any ideas for cookies for him and didn’t have a lot of time to come up with an idea that would really be special. Plus, I think he may be done with sugar cookies (I don’t know why!) Making cookies without inspiration is mostly just tedious. But on Friday night, everybody went downstairs to participate in a, lately, frequent activity. The Strongman and the kids have been watching The Justice League cartoon series together. It has been funny. Like they have a secret club. They go around talking about J’onnn J’onzz and the power of Green Lantern’s ring. They’ve really had fun doing it and it’s been a bonding experience for them. I joined in their Justice League viewing on Friday, after decoding that day’s secret club password, and while watching, I got the perfect idea for birthday cookies.
I love when I feel inspired. That is when making cookies is fun! And this idea could not have been more perfect. “Super Dad” Cookies!
These are the logos of the core members of DC’s Comics Justice League. From Top left: Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, From Bottom Left: Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter (I made a Wonder Woman cookie as well, but kept that one for myself.)
It was hard to make these and keep them a secret while he was home on Saturday. There was a lot of cloak and dagger or at least diversions. A magnanimous suggestion for him to go for a bike ride, and run to the store, and fill up the grill’s propane tanks for instance. I feel a little bad because on one such trip a bee climbed into his shoe and stung him. Now he has a little sausage foot on his birthday. Oops. Hopefully the cookies made up for it.
Happy Birthday Super Dad!
