For reals! Who is ready for it to be warm and stay warm? It is spring weather, then it’s back to winter weather again. My poor kids don’t know how to get dressed in the morning. One day they wear long sleeves and long pants and they are sweating to death. The next day they wear flip flops and shorts and they have to get four toes amputated apiece due to frostbite.
In an effort to summon consistently warmer weather I’m posting this delicious peach lemon ice recipe (when we reach the end of July I’m sure I’ll be begging for a little more moderate temperatures like we are having now, but I’ve never claimed to be sensible.) I love slushy drinks! And I love lemonade! And I love peaches! Voila! Here you have it. This is tasty slushy non-alcoholic drink you can whip up and enjoy while you barbecue on your deck. I was preparing to to make lemonade, when I saw some peaches in the freezer. I changed my game plan and created this instead.
I have a really nice Blend-tec blender. I got it a couple years ago for my Mother’s Day/Birthday present. I really had to talk the Strongman into this purchase. He could not understand why a blender could be so expensive. Finally, I prevailed and we got the blender. He has since become this blender’s biggest advocate. It took exactly one orange julius free of any ice chunks to convert him. He makes himself an orange julius at least 3 times a week.
If you don’t have a fancy blender, then you will be fine. Your ice will probably be more coarse, but it will still be tasty and refreshing.
I made these last week during a “heat wave.” It was 80 degrees outside and absolutely lovely. Now it is 36 degrees outside. Not lovely. Especially because our cold weather came with wind. And I HATE WIND! Call me crazy, but ever since my roof blew off in a wind storm two-and-a-half years ago, I’m a little sensitive. (No not the entire roof, but ALL of my shingles. Which we had just put on 6 months earlier when we re-roofed.) I am waiting to hear the sound of shingles flying off the roof again. Bring on the heat!
On a completely unrelated note. My 10-month-old has forced me to develop a new skill. It is known as “defensive showering.” It involves me taking a shower while trying to keep him out of the shower. He has just figured out that there is a lot of great stuff behind doors and in drawers. And the most mystical and magical place of all is the shower. Especially when somebody is in it. We have a shower curtain and a walk in shower and he can’t be distracted from trying to get in there. I vary my techniques to match his offensive attack. I try to position my leg so his head runs into it as he tries to crawl in. Then I try to hold the shower curtain closed by pinning each corner snugly to the shower floor with my feet. Then I hold it closed with one hand. All while trying to shampoo, rinse and repeat.
Twice this week I have failed and he has ended up on the shower floor in his clothes. This week I resolve to put him in the jumper where he can’t escape. Or at least where I don’t think he can escape.
So, I’m hoping for a nice warm week and a nice uninterrupted shower this week. What are the odds I’ll get my wishes?
